Rocky ‘Rocko’
Trujillo is a force to be reckoned with on
his drums, an instrument he has been perfecting since
the ripe age of 13 years old.
His fluidity and style can be attributed to a diverse
musical taste, ranging from Industrial and Hard Core
Metal, to Funk, R&B, Latin and Blues. His early
influences include artists such as the inimitable Neil
Peart from Rush, his best
friend Tom Hunting of Exodus
and just about anyone he could tune in to on the FM
radio in his bedroom or his then-limited supply of vinyl.
He credits his love of music to his father, a guitarist
whose own joy of music was inspirational in his early
developmental years. Not only does he play drums, but
he also performs lead and backing vocals, sometimes
allowing sit-in drummers so he can shake his money-maker
up front.
“Playin drums, performing
for people, getting people to dance, that’s a
pretty cool thing…one of the great joys in my
life…when I stop having fun doing it, I’ll
turn in my sticks and watch someone else do it…nahhh,
f**k that, I’ll just turn in my sticks...”
-Rocko
Rocko has played with local bands such as The
Peter Dunkin Group (Rock, R&B), The Groove (Funk, R&B), New Rajeem (Funk, R&B), The Model Americans (Rock, Rock-a-Billy)
Brian Kehoe and the Kehoe Nation
(RAWK) and Bay Area Industrial Powerhouse PainFactor
(Industrial Metal).
When he’s not dropping a funky beat, he enjoys
fishing, road trips, teching for other bands and spending
time with his wife and two beautiful daughters.
